In recognition of Black History Month, App State Athletics is featuring different student-athletes and the people that came before them that made them who they are today. Today's feature is on Daryn Armstrong, a junior on the volleyball team. Growing up, I spent most of my time in the gym as I was a competitive gymnast. My first role model in the sport was Gabby Douglas, who was a member of the Olympic team in 2012. I looked up to her because not only was she incredible, but she also looked like me and that was rare in the sport of gymnastics.
