NORFOLK, Va. — Behind a strong pitching performance from starter Jackson Steensma and two relievers, App State Baseball opened a Sun Belt Conference road series against Old Dominion with a 5-2 victory Friday afternoon.
The Mountaineers (29-16-1, 14-10-1) took the lead for good in the third inning, allowing just single runs in the second and seventh innings, with Austin St. Laurent's eighth-inning homer adding some helpful insurance.
Steensma (win, 6-2), Collin Welch and Grey LaSpaluto (two-inning save) combined for eight strikeouts and just one walk.
