BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State University baseball alum Jeffrey Springs has been assigned to the High Desert Mavericks club after a successful stint with the Hickory Crawdads this year, the Texas Rangers announced today.
The left-handed pitcher led all of the South Atlantic League on the mound in batting average against (.106) and fewest baserunners per nine innings pitched (5.52). Springs, 23, recently represented the Crawdads in the SAL All-Star Game on June 21 in Lexington, Ky. after leading the team with a 1.16 ERA and 0.61 WHIP. He struck out the only batter he faced.
