Appalachian State’s Mister Reliable Kicker Chandler Staton nailed a 45-yard field goal with 5:45 remaining and the Mountaineers defense held Marshall scoreless the rest of the way enroute to a 31-20 victory over their long-time rival Thursday night at Kidd Brewer Stadium in Boone. The game was played before 28,377 rabid fans and a national ESPN television audience.
Appalachian State (3-1) seemed destined to lose for much of the last half. The Mountaineers committed turnovers on their first two possessions of the second half with an interception and a fumble, respectively, and also turned the ball over on down.
