BOONE, N.C. -- Friederike Stegen netted the deciding goal in overtime to cap off a 4-3 comeback in a wild Sunday afternoon at Adcock Field.
Appalachian (3-1) trailed Rider (1-2) with less than three minutes remaining in regulation before sophomore Veerle Van Heertum found the back of the net on a penalty corner. Rider's Tess Coorens picked up a yellow card in the 63rd minute, giving the Mountaineers the advantage they needed to find the game-tying goal.
"We just wanted to have some patience," head coach Meghan Dawson said.
