BOONE, N.C. – Despite trailing by six runs in the third inning, the App State offense erupted at the plate, highlighted by a six-run sixth inning, in a 16-8 victory over No. 13 Coastal Carolina, in front of a sold-out crowd at Smith Stadium on Saturday.
The Mountaineers have now beaten a ranked Coastal team in back-to-back seasons, earning their first ranked win at home since 2018.
Trailing 6-0 in the third inning, App State's (14-6, 2-2) offense began to chip away. Adam Quintero began the inning with a 13-pitch at bat that culminated with a double to left field, injecting some energy into the Mountaineers at the plate.
