DENTON, Texas – After cutting a 15-point second-half deficit down to just two points with 11 seconds to play, the App State Mountaineers (6-6, 0-1 SBC) needed to foul to extend the game. The Mountaineers fouled North Texas' (8-3) Jasper Floyd, who hit both free throws to give the Mean Green a four-point advantage with 10 seconds to play. North Texas fouled twice in the final seconds, but App State's comeback effort fell short in Denton on Friday as the Mean Green won 68-64.
Despite the result, CJ Huntley's free throw at the 16:05 mark of the first half made him the 37th member of App State's 1,000-point club.
