BOONE, N.C. – As the closing minutes counted off the clock in the 2018 season, the Appalachian State field hockey team had accomplished a major milestone, securing its first two victories at the Mid-American Conference Tournament in program history.
After falling behind within the first 10 minutes in the opening round, the Black and Gold used three second-half goals to power past Central Michigan 5-2. One day later, the Mountaineers then stifled No. 3 seed Longwood 2-0 to advance to the semifinals. The win over the Lancers was Appalachian's first since 2014 and second in program history.
