Wes Craven dies at 76; horror maestro made 'Nightmare on Elm Street' and 'Scream' films

Wes Craven, the prolific horror filmmaker behind “A Nightmare on Elm Street” and the “Scream” movies, died Sunday at his Los Angeles home after a battle with brain cancer, according to his representative. He was 76.

The Cleveland native was known for his innovative films that expanded the horror genre.

Craven is survived by his wife, Iya Labunka, as well as his son, daughter, stepdaughter and their families.
