Two killed, several injured in crash on 405 Freeway in Van Nuys

A collision between a big-rig and another vehicle on the 405 Freeway in Van Nuys killed one person, injured six others and closed the northbound lanes, snarling weekend traffic, officials said.

The accident was reported around 12:45 p.m. near Sherman Way, said Officer Monica Posada of the California Highway Patrol. All five northbound lanes were initially closed down, Posada said.

Some lanes were briefly reopened about 1:30 p.m. before all northbound lanes were shut down again along with the Sherman Way onramp, authorities said. By 4 p.m., one of the northbound lanes was reopened.

No other information was immediately available about the person killed or the conditions of the surviving victims.
