Last year, I got the opportunity to spend a lovely hour interviewing Theodore Bikel, who died Tuesday of natural causes at age 91. The Austrian-born Bikel had earned an Oscar nomination for supporting actor for 1958's "The Defiant Ones," was the original Captain Von Trapp opposite Mary Martin in "The Sound of Music" on Broadway and had played Sholom Aleichem's beloved Tevye in the musical "Fiddler on the Roof" more than 2,000 performances over a four-decade period.
Bikel was also a successful folk artist and co-founded the Newport Folk Festival with Pete Seeger and other folks artists.
