Texas Atty. Gen. Paxton, indicted in securities fraud, surrenders

The Texas attorney general has surrendered to authorities on felony charges that he misled investors in a scheme to funnel money to himself.

Ken Paxton, 52, turned himself in Monday morning at the Collin County Sheriff’s Office, where he was booked on three charges: two counts of fraud and one count of failing to register as an investment advisor.

A clerk for Tarrant County District Court Judge George Gallagher told The Los Angeles Times that the indictment against Paxton would be unsealed at noon CDT Monday.

Paxton has been in office just seven months. A former member of the Texas House of Representatives, where he was first elected in 2002, Paxton authored a quick rise through Texas politics that was capped by his election in November to the state’s highest law enforcement position.
