Tesla Motors Inc. announced a slew of new options for its Model S electric sports sedan, including a “ludicrous” mode that will rocket the car from zero to 60 mph in just 2.8 seconds.
In a news conference, Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk said the Palo Alto automaker also will offer a new 90 kWh battery pack version that will extend the vehicle’s range at highway speed to about 300 miles. It’s a $3,000 upgrade from the 85 kWh, which was the automaker’s largest battery.
Tesla also will introduce a rear-wheel-drive base model version of the S with a 70 kWh battery and shorter range.
