Shooting at Louisiana movie theater leaves 3 dead, including gunman

A gunman opened fire in a movie theater in Lafayette, La., on Thursday night, killing two people and injuring seven, officials said.

The shooter, a 58-year-old "lone white male," is also dead, Louisiana State Police Sgt. Brooks David told CNN. No motive has been established, David said.

"It appears that the shooter has died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after discharging his weapon numerous times," Lafayette Police Chief Jim Craft told reporters.

Three of the seven people wounded suffered critical injuries, Craft said.

He said that officials know the gunman's identity but are not disclosing yet to avoid impeding the investigation.
