A stretch of Huntington State Beach that was shut down Thursday afternoon after a shark sighting was reopened Friday morning under an advisory, state lifeguards said.
Part of Newport Beach will remain closed until midday Friday, according to Newport Beach lifeguards. Still, several surfers were hitting the water near the Santa Ana River jetty on Friday morning.
A 200-yard stretch of Newport and Huntington beaches was closed after a shark was reported around 4 p.m. by a Huntington Beach surf watch boat, according to Orange County Lifeguard Capt. Brad Herzog.
The boat crew reported seeing an 8-foot shark acting aggressively near the jetty, Herzog said.
