Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reported that the Ducks attempted to work out a trade for Russian center Vadim Shipachyov with the Vegas Golden Knights in the midst of his playing/contract debacle.
Friedman, in his weekly column “31 Thoughts”, detailed how the Ducks tried to make a deal work for the KHL star. However, Shipachyov’s bonus repayment terms are apparently what ended up killing the deal.
Shipachyov signed a 2-year, $4.5 million deal with the Vegas Golden Knights this offseason prior to the expansion draft. Included in that deal was a $2 million signing bonus that is now the complication in terminating his contract so he can return to Russia.
