The movie grossed a studio-estimated $3.7 million from pre-show screenings in the U.S., the biggest ever Thursday night number for a Pixar or Disney Animation film, according to Disney.
The 2013 outing "Monsters University" took in $2.6 million in its Thursday bow on its way to grossing $82.4 million in its first weekend in theaters. Last year's "Big Hero 6" took $1.4 million in its pre-weekend debut, while "Frozen" went out on a Tuesday with $1.2 million.
