The leaders of Germany and Balkan nations gathered Thursday to discuss how to deal with massive numbers of refugees flooding into their countries amid reports of at least 20 migrants found dead in a truck in Austria.

The grim discovery was made in eastern Austria along a stretch of highway from Hungary, the Austrian newspaper Kronen Zeitung reported on its website.

The migrants had apparently suffocated inside the truck, which was left abandoned on the roadside.

Austrian authorities said at least 20 bodies had been found. Kronen Zeitung reported that the number could reach as high as 50.
