Joan Sebastian, one of Mexico's great ballad singers and winner of multiple Grammy Awards, has died at age 64.
A representative of Universal Music Latin Entertainment-Fonovisa confirmed Sebastian's death Monday, but did not specify the cause. The singer had battled cancer for years.
He was best known for sentimental love songs such as "Tatuajes" and "Secreto de Amor," sometimes set to simple guitar arrangements and sometimes sung on horseback.
"I don't make up songs -- I live songs," Sebastian told Billboard magazine in an interview. "My songs are a response to feelings, to what I've lived.
