Pending HBO’s expected approval, Argentina’s Lucas Matthysse will return to the venue where he produced the 2014 fight of the year when he meets unbeaten Ukrainian Viktor Postol at StubHub Center in Carson.
Golden Boy Promotions matchmaker Eric Gomez told The Times on Monday that his company, which represents Matthysse, has struck a deal with Postol’s promoter while placing a hold on StubHub for Oct. 3.
Gomez said HBO is awaiting other bouts, including a planned November fight between Golden Boy’s Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Puerto Rico’s Miguel Cotto, before committing to the date.
Matthysse (37-3, 34 knockouts) and Postol (27-0, 11 KOs) will fight for the World Boxing Council light-welterweight belt vacated by unbeaten Danny Garcia, who's now fighting at welterweight.
