Thousands of Southern California Edison customers remained in the dark early Friday as the company struggled to restore power after an underground fire sent manhole covers flying nearly two days ago.
Nearly 6,000 SCE customers have experienced short- or long-term outages since the vault fire Wednesday afternoon sparked several underground explosions that sent the manhole covers into the air.
Since then, crews restored power to most customers only to see additional work knock some of that power out again.
