A man with a semi-automatic handgun walked up to a Las Vegas police SUV waiting at a red light and opened fire, striking one officer in the right hand, authorities said.
Police said the officer was taken to University Medical Center's trauma center. He was hospitalized in good condition for the non-life threatening injury. The suspected gunman was later arrested.
Police called the shooting an ambush, although no motive or details were given.
The shooting happened about 12:15 p.m. Sunday, when two officers in a marked police SUV were headed to a dollar store for a reported disturbance in southeastern Las Vegas.
