Los Angeles nutritional products company Herbalife Ltd. reported second-quarter profit that beat analysts' expectations but was less than it earned during the same period last year.
The maker of meal-replacement shake powder, protein bars, vitamins, teas and other items said Wednesday it earned $82.8 million, or 97 cents per share, in the three months ended June 30. That was down from $119.5 million, or $1.31 a share, in the same period last year.
Net sales fell 11% to $1.16 billion from $1.3 billion a year earlier.
Unfavorable foreign-currency exchange rates contributed to the weaker results, Herbalife said in its earnings release after markets closed.
