Greece rejects bailout terms; its role in Europe hangs in the balance

Greeks began flocking to polling booths Sunday to vote in a momentous referendum that could decide the country’s financial fate in the short term and its role in Europe in the long term.

Among those casting ballots in the first few hours was Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, the young left-wing leader who is encouraging his compatriots to say “no” to a bailout offer from international lenders that would entail more painful austerity cuts for Greece.
