Despite recovering three fumbles in the second half, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame was beaten by San Mateo Serra, 35-29, on Saturday afternoon in a nonleague football game in the Bay Area.
Notre Dame (1-2) fell behind, 35-17, then started taking advantage of turnovers. Khalid Taylor had a 78-yard touchdown pass from Cole Klayman and Klayman scored on a two-yard run with 5:45 left to put the Knights in position.
But Serra (1-1) stopped Notre Dame on downs with 3:04 left to end the comeback attempt.
Klayman did his best to rally the Knights despite the absence for most of the second half of standout running back Leo Lambert III, who was injured.
