A fast-moving wildfire in San Diego County erupted Sunday afternoon and briefly threatened a number of homes in rural De Luz, officials said.
The 10-acre blaze that started about 3 p.m. at 39431 De Luz Road spread to 20 acres--in just half an hour. Bone-dry conditions and hilly terrain allowed it to burn quickly, according to Capt. Kendal Bortisser of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
Cal Fire, working with the California Highway Patrol, had to shut down the portion of De Luz/De Luz Murrieta Road near a creek and the Santa Margarita Truck Trail.
