Fast-growing brush fire shuts northbound 5 Freeway, threatens homes in Santa Clarita

All northbound lanes of the 5 Freeway were shut down in Santa Clarita on Wednesday as firefighters battled a fast-growing brush fire.

The freeway will be closed for at least two hours at the 14 Freeway just south of Gavin Canyon, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The three-alarm fire that started about 1:10 p.m. burned five to 10 acres and was inching closer to a mobile home park in the area, officials said.

Los Angeles County fire officials said several structures were directly in the path of the fire and were under threat.

More than 200 firefighters were focused on protecting structures, and a helicopter was dropping water on the blaze, officials said.
