Only hours after personally transporting dozens of injured to and from nearby hospitals, Salahuddin, 45, is back at his Shah Shahid neighborhood PVC store to assess the damage from an early Friday morning explosion that left at least eight people dead and hundreds more injured.
“There was smoke and broken glass everywhere. Everyone was panicking, everywhere you turned there was someone else who was hurt,” Salahuddin, whose entire store was damaged in the bombing, described the scene in the East Kabul neighborhood immediately following the blast.
It wasn’t until he was able to maneuver past the crowds and broken glass that lined the streets leading to his store that he realized three of his own staff, who were sleeping in a backroom of the store, were among the injured.
