At least 20 gunshots rang out during a tense late-night protest in Ferguson on the one-year anniversary of Michael Brown’s death, and a local activist said a man had been shot.
St. Louis County police said on social media that one of its officers had been involved in a shooting after coming “under heavy gunfire.” The department released photos showing what it said were two unmarked police cars peppered with several bullet holes but did not immediately say whether anyone had been hurt. The department scheduled a news conference for 2:30 a.m.
Tony Rice, a prominent Ferguson activist, said there had been "well over 20" gunshots in the area of a Ponderosa Steakhouse parking lot near the corner of of Ferguson and West Florissant avenues.
