A Northern California fire that prompted thousands of evacuations and spurred Gov. Jerry Brown to declare a state of emergency was 10% contained early Saturday.
Nearly 3,300 fire personnel were battling the Butte fire, which has eaten up nearly 65,000 acres stretching across Amador and Calaveras counties in California's Gold Country.

Active throughout the night, the fire’s sparks and embers ignited additional flames, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
Firefighters continued to struggle with rugged terrain and gaining access to the blaze which began Wednesday afternoon near Jackson, southeast of Sacramento.
