Southern California firefighters battling three fires in triple-digit heat could get some relief Monday as temperatures are expected to drop slightly ahead of a cool-down later this week.
Temperatures will be 5 to 7 degrees cooler Monday than Sunday but will remain hot for most areas in the valleys and mountains, according to the National Weather Service.
As a high-pressure system over Southern California weakens, clouds, fog and lower temperatures will take hold Tuesday and continue for the rest of the week, with the coolest weather Thursday, forecasters said.
Wind gusts are expected to peak Monday and stick around through the week, which could present a challenge for firefighters battling the Cabin fire north of Glendora.
