The auction house Christie's is expected to announce Wednesday that Los Angeles native Sonya Roth has been named its managing director for Southern California -- a role that will require her to spearhead the company's growth strategy in the region.
Roth, who is a lawyer by training and worked as a California deputy attorney general, joined Christie's on Sept. 1, the company said. She will report into Brook Hazelton, Christie's president for the Americas.
Roth is a co-founder of the recently created Director's Council at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles. The council is intended to encourage patronage among young art lovers and to help the museum with acquisitions.
