Charleston church shooting victims: Who they were

A gunman who opened fire Wednesday night at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, a historic black church in Charleston, S.C., killed nine people: six women and three men. Charleston County Coroner Rae Wooten formally identified the victims Thursday, confirming that the deceased includeds several ministers and people who worked for the county. Here is what we know about them so far:

Cynthia Hurd, 54

Hurd was a manager at Charleston County Public Library.

"Cynthia was a tireless servant of the community who spent her life helping residents, making sure they had every opportunity for an education and personal growth," the library said in a statement.
