The state Senate on Monday approved emergency legislation that would allow California high school seniors who are part of the class of 2015 to graduate without taking an exit exam after the state cancelled the test for this summer.
About 5,000 students faced possible problems with getting jobs and attending college after the state superintendent of public instruction cancelled this summer’s exam upon deciding the current test is not in step with the new curriculum based on Common Core. The test was cancelled after a contract with the company overseeing the exam was not renewed.
“This situation is not the fault of the students,” said Senate Republican leader Bob Huff of San Dimas.
