Budapest train station reopens, but migrants still can't get rides to Western Europe

Hundreds of migrants streamed into Budapest’s main train station Thursday after police finally stopped blocking the entrance following a fraught two-day standoff.

The doors to the Keleti rail station in the Hungarian capital swung open around 6 a.m., but announcements over the loudspeakers informed the waiting crowds that services to Western Europe had been suspended indefinitely.

The railway company said the action had been taken “in the interests of railway transport security.”

Amid the confusion, migrants were seen boarding trains and lingering around platforms, unsure what was happening and hopeful that they would soon be transported to Germany or Austria.
