Boston is no longer in the running for the 2024 Summer Olympic Games.
Boston is no longer a candidate for the Games, the United States Olympic Committee announced Monday. The decision comes hours after Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh said he would not sign a host-city contract without knowing more about the financial picture associated with hosting the Olympics.
With Boston no longer in the running for the Games, Los Angeles is considered the frontrunner for a new U.S. bid. USOC CEO Scott Blackmun said the committee still is exploring opportunities to submit a U.S. bid.
On Monday, Walsh said hours before a scheduled USOC teleconference that "Boston is no longer pursuing to host the 2024 Summer Games" if it means signing the host contract.
