Arborist finds no cause for collapse of tree that fell on children in Pasadena

Pasadena will hire an independent arborist after its own expert found no clear cause for the collapse of a 75-foot pine that fell onto a group of campers at a children’s museum in Pasadena.

City Manager Michael Beck said the city’s arborist conducted a preliminary assessment of the 75-year-old tree and could not find conclusive reasons for its fall. After the initial review, Beck said he decided to immediately seek an independent assessment for the cause of the tree collapse. Once the tree is examined, it will be removed.

The tree, maintained by the city, showed no obvious signs of disease, and was receiving water.
