Officials on Wednesday confirmed a fatality in the huge Butte fire, bringing to two the number of people killed this week in California wildfires.
CalFire announced the fatality on Twitter, adding that Calaveras County Sheriff's Department would reveal more information later.
The Butte fire has burned 71,000 acres and destroyed more than 300 structures.
The announcement comes two days after the body of an disabled woman was find in the rubble for the Valley Fire in Lake County.
On Wednesday, officials were dealing with looting in the Valley fire burn zones.
Law enforcement teams encountered looters Wednesday morning and Tuesday night in evacuated communities, authorities said.
