The Independence Bowl has been contested in Shreveport, Louisiana, since 1976 … The bowl’s primary conference affiliations are with the ACC and SEC … The only previous appearance by an American Athletic Conference team was in 2015, when Tulsa dropped a 55-52 shootout with Virginia Tech in what was the final game for Hokies head coach Frank Beamer … Temple and Duke are both making their first appearances in the bowl … This years’ game will be the first meeting between Temple and Duke on the gridiron … The schools rank fourth (Duke) and fifth (Temple) in all-time men’s basketball wins entering the 2018-19 season.
