STORRS, Conn. – UConn defeated SMU 1-0 to claim The American Women’s Soccer Championship on Sunday. The title is the Huskies' second American women's soccer crown.
Rachel Hill scored the lone goal of the match off a long pass from Kim Urbanek in the 39th minute. In the second half, the Huskies defense held strong as the Mustangs pushed for a game-tying goal.

UConn (18-2-1) outshot SMU (13-6-2), 13-9, in the match and also led in shots on-goal, 4-3. UConn goalkeeper Emily Armstrong made three saves in the match to record her league leading 11th shutout.
