EUGENE, Ore. – Tulsa’s Patrick Dever claimed the national championship in the men’s 10000-meter run on the opening day of competition on Wednesday at the 2021 NCAA Division I Track & Field Championships at Hayward Field. An additional five American Athletic Conference athletes from Houston punched their tickets to finals heats that are scheduled for Friday evening.
Dever established a meet record in the men’s 10K with a time of 27:41.87, shattering the previous national championship mark established by Texas-El Paso’s Suleiman Nyambui (28:01.30) in 1979. Dever gathered the second men’s 10K national title for Tulsa since the Golden Hurricane joined The American, alongside Marc Scott in 2017.
