SMU Secures Spot in Quarterfinals with 60-54 win Against East Carolina

UNCASVILLE, Conn. – No. 6 seed SMU used a balanced scoring attack to power past No. 11 seed East Carolina 60-54 in first round action Friday at the 2017 Frontier Communications American Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Championship.

Junior Alicia Froling had her 16th double-double of the year, a team-high 23 points along with a game-high 12 rebounds, for the Mustangs, which improved to 17-13 on the year. Kiara Perry added 14 points while McKenzie Adams chipped in 12.

Graduate student Kristen Gaffney led the Pirates with a game-high 24 points on 7-of-12 shooting and a 10-of-13 outing from the charity stripe.
