FORT WORTH, Texas – No. 9 Rice advanced to the semifinals of the 2025 American Women’s Basketball Championship with a 62-58 win over No. 1 seed UTSA on Monday afternoon, March 10, at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
With the win, the Owls (16-16) will face the winner of Temple and Charlotte on Tuesday, March 11 at 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT on ESPN+. Rice improved to 6-0 all-time in American Championship history. It was also the third consecutive season that the No. 1 seed lost its first game of the Championship.
The Owls outscored the Roadrunners (26-4) by 11 points over the middle two quarters to take a 49-40 lead into the final period.
