No. 11 Temple Knocks Off No. 6 Wichita State 72-59 In Women's Basketball Championship First Round

UNCASVILLE, Conn. – Tanaya Atkinson and Emani Mayo combined for 44 points, as No. 11 Temple defeated No. 6 Wichita State 72-59 in the opening game of the 2018 Aaron’s American Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Championship at Mohegan Sun Arena. Temple head coach Tonya Cardoza collected her 200th career win, as the Owls shot 47 percent from the field.

Temple (12-18, 3-13 American) returns to the Quarterfinals for the second-straight year on Sunday, March 4, taking on No. 3 UCF at Noon ET.

Temple held Wichita State (14-17, 9-7 American) to shooting 29 percent from the floor in the opening quarter, as Mykia Jones drained a 3-pointer in the final 21 seconds to give her side a 15-11 edge at the first intermission.
