Four American Athletic Conference running backs are among the 73 players who have been named as preseason candidates for the 2022 Doak Walker Award, which goes to the nation's top running back.
UCF had two players selected, with senior Isaiah Bowser and junior Johnny Richardson making the cut.
Bowser, a transfer from Northwestern, rushed for 703 yards and nine touchdowns in eight games in his first year with the Knights. Richardson rushed for 733 yards and three TDs, averaging 7.0 yards per carry in 2021.
East Carolina's Keaton Mitchell, who had a breakout year with 1,132 yards and nine touchdowns in 2021, joins Tulane's Tyjae Spears as the other two American Athletic Conference selections.
