The timing just stunk.
Poised for a big junior season at Perry High School, Brock Purdy came down with mono. Six weeks were gone just like that. So were 20 pounds. Strength was an issue even after returning from being sick.
All of this set the Gilbert, Ariz., passer back in the recruiting world. Despite throwing for 3,333 yards and 42 touchdowns in 10 games, the game tape wasn't blowing away college coaches.
A year later, Purdy has a scholarship from Alabama and he'll be in Tuscaloosa for an official visit this weekend. He'll be at UCF from Wednesday-Friday before heading north.
