Lane Kiffin is off to Boca Raton. The Alabama offensive coordinator was appointed the next head coach at Florida Atlantic, Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban announced Monday.
When Kiffin came to Tuscaloosa in 2014, his hire appeared to come out of left field. But in actuality it had been preordained when Saban brought Kiffin in as an offensive consultant in December 2013.
Nearly three years later, it's more difficult to divine which direction Saban will go as he aims to replace Kiffin. Saban said Monday there is no timetable to fill the role Kiffin will vacate at the end of the College Football Playoff.
