ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Tuesday morning that Washington decided to franchise tag the former Alabama defensive tackle.
Payne becomes the first player this off-season to receive a franchise tag. He is projected to make $18.937 million on the tag as he’s coming off his best season in the National Football League. The 6-foot-3, 320-pounder recorded a career-high 11.5 sacks and 18 tackles for loss in 2022 — earning his first Pro Bowl selection.
