Vols passing game shows big-play pop after 44-yard day last year at Alabama

It's fair to say Tennessee's offense didn't have much success last time it faced Alabama. It's probably more accurate calling that an understatement.

The Vols managed all of 108 total yards, five first downs, and only one close encounter with an end zone. Alabama stomped Tennessee 45-7 with the shutout-buster coming on an interception return.

It was bad.

There are, however, signs of life with the Vol offense entering the 2:30 p.m. CT Saturday resumption of the rivalry in Knoxville. Quarterback Jarrett Guarantano had a career-high 328 passing yards completing 21 of 32 throws in a 30-24 upset at Auburn last week.
