The San Francisco 49ers have signed safety Vinnie Sunseri for their practice squad, the NFL team announced on Tuesday.
Sunseri was an Under Armour All-American and the Class 6A Lineman of the Year in 2010 at Northridge High School in Tuscaloosa. He played collegiately at Alabama, including the Crimson Tide's 2011 and 2012 BCS national-championship teams.
Sunseri was a free agent after being released from the New England Patriots' practice squad on Oct. 24.
Each NFL team can carry up to 10 players on its practice squad. Practice-squad players do everything players on the active-squad do except play in games.
